Live History

While The Willings is today a warm and inviting residence, railroad enthusiasts and history buffs would especially appreciate the building's rich history.

Located in magnificent Society Hill overlooking Independence Park, the neighborhood surrounding The Willings is home to the largest concentration of original 18th- and early 19th-century architecture of any area in the United States.

Built in the late 1800s, The Willings was the original headquarters for the Reading Railroad and is located on one of the most historic streets in the district where Thomas Willings mansion (for whom the building is named) once stood. Willings, a Revolutionary War financier, was one of the wealthiest men in the country at the time. He also founded the first private bank in the US.

The Willings shares a scenic courtyard with Old St. Joseph’s Church — home to one of the oldest religious communities in Philadelphia — built in 1839.

TESTIMONIALS

  • "My wife and I have been condo owners at the Willings in Philadelphia since October 2008. The luxurious Willings is a wonderful place to live in the city. Quiet, clean, safe, and hospitable the building is expertly managed by the professional staff. The location on South 4th Street, the neighborhood, the parking, and all the walkable conveniences/amenities nearby are all superb. It is a pleasure to recommend the Willings without any hesitation!"

  • "To reside in the epicenter of Society Hill is a privilege in itself, with living examples of American history all around and an easy walk to great museums, theaters and restaurants. Living in the Willings is even beyond that: I love the feeling of walking into what feels like an elegant European hotel with its own place in history. I appreciate the quiet, the understated elegance, the friendliness of both our neighbors and staff, and our management's striving for impeccable service. We're glad we chose the Willings when we moved into town."
